Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP-PCC), has pleaded with Nigerians to refrain from referring to the Lamidi Apapa group as a party division.

According to Newsmen, the Labour Party (LP) is experiencing a leadership crisis as a result of an April 5 ruling by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court prohibiting Julius Abure, the Labour Party’s national chairman, Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, the party’s national secretary, and two other individuals from acting as national officers of the party until the case is resolved.

Despite a separate court in Benin blocking the suspension of Abure and other party executives, Apapa, then-Deputy National Chairman, South, took over the role of national chairman in an acting capacity after Abure was suspended.

Apapa and his supporters, in the words of the Labour Party spokeswoman, are “politicians of convenience” and “fortune,” as opposed to “conviction” and “fortitude.”

He emphasized that there is no crisis within the Labour Party and that one should “never call them a faction” of the party.

Okonkwo said: “I refer you to the Labour Party constitution.

“Article 13(1)(b)(iv) says it is only the national convention that can elect or remove the national officers. And then Article 13(2)(b)(xvi) and (xvii) says it is only the NEC that can replace the vacancy in any national office and that it is only the NEC that can discipline any national officer.
