Sam Amadi, a former chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has made fun of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, for announcing a public holiday in advance of Bola Tinubu’s visit to the region.
In order for inhabitants of the state to meet Tinubu, Governor Wike declared Wednesday, May 3, a public holiday, according to prior news reports.
During his visit on Wednesday (today), Tinubu is anticipated to officially launch a number of projects, including a flyover at the Rumuokwuta and Rumuola intersection in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and a Magistrate Court complex at the Moscow Road in the Port-Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Tinubu’s Visit: Wike Proclaims Public Holiday In Rivers
All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and incoming president Wike’s invitation has subsequently elicited conflicting responses, with many criticizing the Rivers State governor in particular for designating the day as a public holiday.
Amadi, who shared the same sentiments as many other Nigerians in response to Wike’s decision, wrote on Tuesday on Twitter that the PDP leader likely believes that the position of president-elect is an official one and that Tinubu’s visit cannot be considered such.
“Governor Wike probably thinks ‘President-elect’ is an official position. The visit of @officialABAT cannot be an ‘official’ visit. It is so painful that leaders would degrade statecraft with pedestrian actions.
“If you degrade language, you degrade leadership, ala George Orwell,” Amadi wrote on Twitter.
