Gunmen Kill Three Policemen In Anambra

Three police officers were killed at a roadblock in Umunze, in the Orumba South local government area of Anambra State, on Thursday afternoon by unidentified gunmen.
According to reports, the gunmen drove to the Nsogwu neighbourhood of the town and shot the on-duty police officers.

The attackers shot the police officers as they attempted to flee into an adjacent property, stole their weapons and uniforms, and drove off in a waiting car.
The worst has just happened in Umunze, according to a local eyewitness. At that checkpoint in Nsogwu, the security personnel have come under attack.

“According to information, three of the officers were shot and killed. Now, Umunze is in a conflict area.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the state police command has swung into action to arrest the hoodlums.

Ikenga said: “It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation, but the police command is not deterred by this development.

“The reinforcement teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing, while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area.”
