Court Remands 20-Year-Old For Illegal Possession Of Firearm

A 20-year-old man named Solomon Johnson was remanded to the Kirikiri detention center on Friday by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged illegal firearm possession.

Johnson did not enter a plea, so the Magistrate, Mrs. M. Ayinde, issued an order that the case file be duplicated and submitted to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for guidance.

The case was postponed to May 23 for mention by Ayinde.

Two counts of conspiracy and illegal possession of a firearm are brought against the defendant, who resides at 17, Okosun St., Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos State.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 13 at Ajegunle, Lagos State.
Oke said that a team of policemen on patrol arrested the defendant with a locally-made double-barrel gun and two live cartridges.

He said that the defendant could not give any satisfactory explanation as to how he got them.

Oke said that the offences contravened Sections 4 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
