Sonia Ekweremadu, 25, the daughter of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has commented on her parents’ conviction for organ harvesting in the United Kingdom.

The UK court had convicted Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in prison on Friday, while his wife, Beatrice, received four years and six months in prison for their involvement in a scheme to obtain a young Nigerian’s kidney in order to treat their daughter.

Dr. Obinna Obeta, a physician and the third defendant in the case, received a 10-year prison term for his promise to assist in the organ harvesting.

Sonia, who was fighting back tears, expressed her sorrow over the whole thing and claimed that her parents’ imprisonment was due to her poor health.

She said, “I don’t think it will ever be the same again. And obviously, I feel guilty because I feel like all these have happened because of me.

“Life is just some dynamic. Like you’re one day in your house chilling and the next day your whole life is turned around”.
