The contested governorship election in Osun State will be decided by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, May 9, according to a Monday order.

After hearing arguments from the parties engaged in the case, the supreme court set a 24-hour deadline for the judgment’s delivery.

The incumbent governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, who ran for governor on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket, and Adegboyega Oyetola, who ran for governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are at the center of the contested election.

The Supreme Court will announce the ultimate decision by 2pm on May 9th.

The APC was represented at today’s proceedings by Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN.

On Friday, March 24, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned the tribunal’s decision invalidating the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of Osun State.

In a unanimous ruling by a three-judge panel, the appellate court determined that Adeleke’s appeal against being fired by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was meritorious.
