Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar requested that the proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal meeting in Abuja be broadcast live. The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has responded.

According to Newsmen, Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) requested permission for the proceedings in the petition he filed to challenge the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the February 25th election to be broadcast on television in an application dated May 5 through his legal team, which was led by Chief Chris Uche (SAN).

In response to Atiku’s plea, Tinubu acknowledged receiving the application through his main attorney, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), but stated that he would need time to formulate an opinion on the matter.

Likewise, counsel representing APC, Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), acknowledged that the petitioners served him on Monday.

He said: “We are taking steps to respond appropriately to the application within the time permitted by the rules of this court.”

It was previously announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it had received the application.

The five-member panel, led by Justice Tsanammi, postponed further pre-hearing proceedings on Atiku’s appeal until Thursday so that he could reply to the request for an order allowing live coverage of petitions attempting to overturn his election.

It commanded all parties to organize all the paperwork they would either accede to or object to, as well as the major questions to be thought about in relation to the petition.

The court said that once all respondents had submitted their responses, it would hear the request for live coverage of its proceedings.
