According to recent reports, Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, has started to assemble his economic management team and cabinet.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, a source close to Tinubu disclosed that the incoming president has begun putting together his cabinet in advance of May 29.
The source disclosed that “The president-elect knows that the expectations are high and is also aware of how impatient Nigerians can be. He does not want to fritter his goodwill, so he wants to have his team ready by May 29. He wants to have the names of those who will form his cabinet as well as members of his economic management team ready ahead of the inauguration.”

The source further disclosed that while Tinubu would like to choose his cabinet from within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has no problem choosing qualified individuals from outside the party to assist him in realizing his “renewed hope” program.
According to the source, the former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Ekiti State, Professor Peter Okebukola, and the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu are all candidates for the cabinet.
Others are 2023 APC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Aisha Benani; a Professor of Energy/Electricity Law, Yemi Oke; a lawyer and former member Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Babatunde Ogala; a former Lagos State commissioner for finance, Mr Wale Edun; a director at Oando Plc, Mr Mofe Boyo; a financial expert and management consultant, Mr Ayo Abina; co-founder of Flutterwave, Mr Iyin Aboyeji; APC National Youth Leader, Mr Dayo Israel; a former presidential aspirant, Mrs Uju Ohanenye; and a former Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Ms Yewande Sadiku.

According to the source, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje is being considered for the position of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, while Wike is probably going to be named Interior Minister and Fayemi as Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, is reportedly being considered as Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.
The source added that other candidates include Professor Okebukola for education minister, Ribadu for minister of police affairs, Ogala for attorney general of the federation, Mr. Edun for minister of finance, budget, and national planning, and Mr. Ayo Abina for minister of state for national planning.
The Minister of Industry is likely to be Ms. Yewande Sadiku, while the Minister of Power is likely to be Senator Aisha Benani, and the Minister of Petroleum Resources is likely to be Mr. Mofe Boyo.

However, the source claimed that people from the list who were not selected for the president-elect’s cabinet will join the Economic Management Team or be chosen to lead important revenue-generating organizations.
