INEC React Over Peter Obi’s Request To Televise Election Tribunal

The Labour Party, LP, and Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, filed an application with the presidential election petition court asking to have the hearings televised. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has instructed the court to reject the plea.

After the pre-hearing session on Wednesday, Levy Ozoukwu, counsel for Obi and LP, informed journalists that INEC denied their request for a live broadcast.

Ozoukwu said: “Surprisingly, INEC is objecting.

“A public institution that is being funded by the government and representing the people is saying they don’t want the people to enjoy live streaming. What are they hiding?”

In a petition, Obi and the LP contest Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, winning the general election of 2023.

The petitioners are requesting that the tribunal either proclaim Obi the victor of the presidential election or force INEC to hold new elections.
