Alex Otti, the newly elected governor of Abia, has advised his followers not to be alarmed by a recent Federal High Court decision in Kano that invalidated his candidacy.

The court had decided that the selection procedure for Otti and other party candidates did not follow the guidelines outlined in the 2022 electoral legislation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Labour Party were sued by Mr. Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim in the case No. FHC/KN/CS/107/2023. The court ruled that the Labour Party’s failure to provide INEC with a copy of its membership register at least 30 days prior to its primaries rendered the selection process invalid.

He declared that the actions of “enemies of democracy” won’t change the decision of the Abia people.

The Labour Party candidate also disparaged the court decision, calling it a waste of time.

According to Newsmen, Alex received 175,467 votes to defeat PDP candidate Okey Ahiwe, who received 88,529 votes.
