The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi celebrated a significant milestone on Friday, May 19 with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for it’s newly constructed Permanent Site at Akammili Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State.
The state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advanced healthcare and development of future medical experts, is set to elevate the Nnewi medical Tourism to new heights. Including well equipped laboratories, Special Treatment Center, Radiology complex, Oxygen Plant capable of producing 150 cylinders of oxygen and other facilities for advanced health care services. The completion of the massive structures within two years has transformed the entire environment, opening up Akammili Umudim for more development.
Commissioned today includes; Mother and Child Complex by HE Mrs Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Paediatric Emergency Complex by Mr. Ben Akabueze, the DG Budget Office of the Federation, Accident and Emergency Complex by Mrs Adefulire, Trauma and Emergency Complex by Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR ably represented by the commissioner for health, Dr. Ben Obidike.

Other facilities sponsored by the Budget Office of the Federation, Partners of the Hospital and Sustainable Development Goal Projects were equally commissioned remarkably during the tenure of Dr. Joseph Ugboaja as the Chief Medical Director and Chief Ezekiel Afukonyo as the board Chiarman.
Chief Afukonyo in an interview with Anaedoonline revealed that the facility represents the realization of the dream to make Nnewi a medical hub in Africa. He added that the members of the board and management of the hospital have remained passionate about delivering the best medical services to the people and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
“This medical advancement will not only benefit the people of Nnewi but the entire country, so we are proud of it and I’m grateful to the board members and the hospital community for being passionate about this project”.
In his speech, the Chief Medical Director NAUTH, Dr. Joseph Ugboaja expressed gratitude to all who contributed in making the day’s event a reality.

“A lot of work was put into today’s event not only about the buildings but begining from the acceptance by the three neighbouring communities, the funds from the government and individuals and commitment from the University. This is just the begining, we will keep building all the necessary facilities we need to till we become not just excellent but among the top 3 medical hubs”.
In addition to providing a top-notch facility for medical treatments, the event equally featured a ground-breaking ceremony for the Igwe Orizu International ICT Center. Igwe Kenneth Orizu III has been the traditional ruler of Nnewi for about 59 years. This area has been mapped out for a gigantic ICT hub in commemoration of the kings’ 60th Year on the throne.
Hon. Minister of Health for state. Hon Joseph Ekumanka thanked the people of Nnewi for the massive support and Mr. president for his interest in SDS and the Nigerian medical Sector.
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, ably represented by the Commissioner for health, Dr. Afam Ben, Obidike extended his appreciation to Ozubulu, Nnewi and Orifite for donating the piece of land used for the complex. He promised to complete the road construction currently ongoing for easy access to the hospital.
Excitement, Jubilation As NAUTH Relocates More Departments To Permanent Site
The NAUTH recognized certain individuals for Pragmatic leadership and outstanding results. Awards were given to great personalities begining from the past CMDs of the hospital, Prof OO mbonu and Prof. Robinson Ofoiaeli to leaders such as Chris Nwabueze Ngige, Mr. Ben Akabueze, Chief Cletus Ibeto and Her Excellency, Adejoke Orelope Adefulire.
In attendance at the ceremony were Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, Nnewi traditional ruler, Engr. Sir. Chris Obiorah, the TC Chairman, Nnewi-North Local Government Area, Hon. Smart Nonso Okafor, member representing Nnewi North at the State house, Joseph Ekumankama, Hon. Minister of state for health, Dr. Virgy Etiaba, Fmr. Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, CEO Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, Obi Kenneth Okafor, (Ammuukwu) the Obi of Umudim, Ajulu Uzodike, CEO of Cultix Plc. and many others
University officials, dignitaries, and SDG projects members gathered to commemorate the occasion, expressing their excitement and optimism for the impact this mega medical city will have on the Community at large.
