As things stand, three senators may be nominated during the election of the 10th Senate’s president on the day of the institution because Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, and Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senate Chief Whip, have vowed not to give up on Godswill Akpabio, the ‘anointed’ candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Remember that the APC NWC chose Tajudeen Abbas (Kaduna/North West) for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Godswill Akpabio (Akwa-Ibom/South-South) for President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau (Kano/North-West) for Deputy President of the Senate, and Benjamin Kalu (Abia/South-East) for Deputy Speaker.

The Senators-elect may propose Senators Akpabio, Kalu, and Yari as their nominees for the office of Senate President on the day of their inauguration, ThisDay reports, barring the outcome of further negotiations.

It was discovered that Yari might decide to withdraw for Kalu prior to the start of voting so that he might run for deputy Senate President.

ThisDay was informed by sources close to Yari and Kalu that the two would take on Akpabio on the day of their inauguration.

According to rumors, the incoming senators will also propose three candidates for the job of Deputy Senate President.

The three senators Barau Jibrin, Sani Musa, and Yari, who would have resigned for Kalu in the Senate election, are the front-runners. Jibrin is the favoured candidate of the party.
