Governor Nyseom Wike of Rivers State has urged incoming legislators vying for leadership roles in the 10th National Assembly to adhere to the APC’s (All Progressives Congress) zoning plan.

This was said on Saturday in Kaduna State, according to news sources.

Remember that the APC NWC chose Tajudeen Abbas (Kaduna/North West) for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Godswill Akpabio (Akwa-Ibom/South-South) for President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau (Kano/North-West) for Deputy President of the Senate, and Benjamin Kalu (Abia/South-East) for Deputy Speaker.

However, some party members and contenders in the race for the leadership of the national assembly have protested the choice of the four candidates, promising to press forward with their bid.

Wike urged candidates to get out of the contest and advised them to put the country’s interests before their own. He also requested them to surrender to the party’s leadership.

“No president can do very well if he does not have that leadership that will corporate with him,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s first-term performance was impacted by the conflict between the national assembly leadership and the executive branch, according to Wike, who was speaking in reference to the leadership of the 8th NASS under Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara.

He said: “You remember what happened in 2015 — that affected the performance of the present administration.

“I think for the interest of Nigeria, let them respect the leadership of their party and the president to move the country forward.”

Wike added that he thinks Bola Tinubu would assemble the “best team” to lead the nation after taking the oath of office on May 29.
