Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, is scheduled to meet with APC National Working Committee members and contenders for leadership positions in the 10th National Assembly.

According to news sources, several of the candidates disapproved of the zoning plan for the 10th National Assembly leadership that the leadership of the ruling party issued on May 28.

Remember that the APC NWC chose Tajudeen Abbas (Kaduna/North West) for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Godswill Akpabio (Akwa-Ibom/South-South) for President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau (Kano/North-West) for Deputy President of the Senate, and Benjamin Kalu (Abia/South-East) for Deputy Speaker.

10th NASS Leadership: Tinubu, APC Govs Dump Consensus For Zoning

An adviser to the President-elect told The Punch on Saturday that Tinubu would meet with all of the candidates today (Sunday) to ease the tension brought on by the party’s endorsement of some of them. The aide spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The aide went on to say that the former governor of Lagos State might either agree to the formula for dividing the leadership roles in the Assembly or request a review of the zoning plan.

According to a source, Tinubu received a message from APC Chairman Abdullahi Adamu urging him to come home because his absence was already costing him control of the 10th National Assembly leadership contest.

A source said: “Abdullahi Adamu was said to have sent words to him (Tinubu) on Thursday night that he was losing grip of the protests against the zoning issue, especially when Gbajabiamila reported the outcome of his encounter with the Reps-elect at Transcorp, a meeting that was attended by less than 80 Reps out of 113 that have appended their signatures. Some fraudulent Reps even appended fake signatures.”

After protesting at the party’s national headquarters for days, Adamu told several Senate and House candidates separately that a review of the zoning plan would be postponed until Tinubu returned to the country.
