According to recent information, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President-elect Bola Tinubu are thinking of reviewing the leadership zoning for the 10th National Assembly.

This comes after Tinubu met with many candidates upon his return from France.

Candidates met separately with Tinubu, including House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, Senators Godswill Akpabio and Sani Musa, among others.

Insiders claim that the conflict between Tinubu and Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, over Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s trip to Paris may have revealed hidden agendas behind the advice certain northern governors provided the president-elect.

Source: The suggestion was “selfish and not the true reflection of the views of the majority,” especially with regard to leadership posts in the National Assembly.

Currently, the South-South and South-East each have one presiding officer seat, leaving the North Central geopolitical zone wholly unrepresented. The North-West has two roles.

According to reports, this has led to disarray inside the party. Another source, however, revealed that after revelations from a meeting between Tinubu and Kwankwaso in France, there are plans to review the current zoning arrangements.

According to a leaked phone call between Ganduje and Ibrahim Masari, the former APC vice presidential placeholder candidate, Tinubu chose to base the zoning arrangements on how well each geopolitical zone performed in the previous election.

Tinubu was not pleased with Ganduje’s comments in the leaked conversation that he ought to have attended the meeting between Tinubu and Kwankwaso.

Another report claims that Tinubu underlined the importance of including the North Central in the zoning plans.

He was quoted saying, “The decision to zone the offices will be looked into so as to bring a balance. The speakership will likely be in the North West as it is a substantive no 4 office higher than the Deputy Senate President in the hierarchy.”
