A new National President and Vice President have been chosen by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to lead the union’s operations for the next two years.

Newsmen informs that during the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, which was held at the University of Jos in Plateau State between May 19 and 21, 2023, union members unanimously endorsed the new leadership.

Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the outgoing president, was re-elected without opposition to a second term in office. Chris Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist and an associate professor in the University of Jos’ College of Medicine, was chosen to serve as vice president.

The following ASUU National Officers were also re-elected at the conference: Prof. Siji Sowande, as Treasurer; Prof. Ade Adejumo, as Financial Secretary; Dr. Austen Sado, as Investment Secretary; Dr. Adamu Babayo, as Internal Auditor; and Dr. Aisha Bawa, as Welfare Secretary in place of Dr. Stella-Maris Okey.

As he traveled to Abuja on Monday morning from the National Delegates Conference, which he regarded as a success, Osodeke, a don at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, confirmed the occurrence.

“We have finished with our national delegates conference in Jos. It was successful. We are on our way back to Abuja. We will issue a statement regarding the conference and my re-election and other national officers when we get back to our station . Thank you,” The PUNCH quoted the ASUU president saying.
