In Guyana, a nation in the northeastern region of South America, a fire that destroyed their dormitories at the Mahdia Secondary School claimed the lives of no less than 20 youngsters.

Irfaan Ali, the president of Guyana, responded by calling the catastrophe that started shortly before midnight a “major disaster.”

“This is a horrific incident, it’s tragic, it’s painful, and I cannot imagine the pain of the parents and the children,” he added. “As a country, we will have to deal with this.”
The pupils were reportedly asleep when the fire tore through the school’s female dormitory, according to Sun UK.
