After the meeting of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal on Tuesday in Abuja, the legal team of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar responded to Bola Tinubu’s impending oath-taking.

In a statement, Atiku’s attorney Chris Uche SAN asked supporters of the PDP candidate not to worry about Bola Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29 because his electoral victory is being contested in court.

“People are asking about May 29. We want to assure people that swearing-in (of Tinubu) is a ceremony that does not tie the hands of the court,” Uche said.

Whether or not a previously announced winner has been sworn in, he continued, an election can be overturned by the court.

The panel, meanwhile, mandated on Tuesday that petitioners begin calling witnesses as of May 30.

After determining that every petition before it disputes the results of the 2023 election, the PEPT equitably merged all of the petitions into one.

Uche stated his happiness with the court giving the PDP, Labour Party, and Allied Peoples Movement three weeks to present their case and the consolidation of all of their petitions.

He said that the court’s ruling was intended to move the matter along quickly.

We are quite pleased that the pre-hearing session was swiftly finished and that the hearing was about to begin properly, he said.
