UK Bans Foreign Students’ Family Members, Work After Studies

In an effort to reduce net migration, the United Kingdom has criticized limitations on student visa pathways, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

On all but postgraduate research courses, the regulation prohibits students from Nigeria and other nations from bringing family members.

In addition, the government outlawed using a student visa as a backdoor to obtain employment in the UK, citing the fact that net migration increased by over 500,000 between June 2021 and June 2022.

It reaffirmed its dedication to the International Education Strategy, which promotes economic growth in the UK by utilizing the benefits that international students can provide.

In addition, the government made it clear that the graduate route’s terms would not alter while simultaneously announcing significant reforms that would take effect in January 2023.

In order to ensure that the smartest and finest students can still bring dependents, the UK committed to working with the higher education sector to investigate alternative possibilities.

Students won’t be allowed to transition from the student visa route to the employment routes until their studies are finished in order to prevent abuse of the visa system.
