Emdee Tiamiyu, a Nigerian man, came under fire for telling British authorities that his folks weren’t really intended to go to school in the UK when they immigrated there through the student visa route.

Remember how the UK government decreed that beginning in January 2024, Nigerian and other foreign students studying in the UK would not be permitted to bring their family members as dependents except “under specific circumstances.”

The rule, according to the UK government, aims to reduce immigration to the nation, which currently stands at about one million.

Following the implementation of the new immigration rule, the BBC spoke with YouTuber Emdee, who revealed that the majority of Nigerians entering the UK on student visas do not intend to pursue academic studies but rather use them as a means of escaping poverty and seeking out better chances.
