Peter Obi, a candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, has recognized that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, may take office on May 29.

Despite Tinubu perhaps succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari, the former governor of Anambra State has not given up on returning his allegedly stolen office and voiced confidence in obtaining justice in court.

Obi explained how, three years after being sworn in, he took back control of the Anambra State government from Chris Ngige, the country’s current minister of labor and employment.

According to Newsmen, the Presidential Election Tribunal’s pre-trial proceedings came to a close on Tuesday. The trial proper is scheduled to start on May 30.

Instead of the purported seven weeks they requested, petitioners have been allocated three weeks to submit their case, from May 30 to June 23.

But speaking through his spokeswoman, Diran Onifade, Obi listed numerous instances of persons being expelled from office after taking office and expressed confidence that the court would eventually bring him to justice.

“Ngige was governor of Anambra State for three years; when his election was found to be faulty, he was removed. Only of recently, Emeka Ihedioha in Imo was asked to vacate for Hope Uzodimma and on and on. So, it’s not a big deal. That’s not how the system works. Even though some people think someone will use executive powers to curtail the court and all. There are separation of powers in our system.

“When you go to court, you expect to get justice in court, and I have been citing examples of people who got justice in the Nigerian court system. We can’t just write them off. As for us, we trust them (the court) because our constitution doesn’t give us an option,” Onifade told DailySun on Wednesday evening.
