Prior to his official inauguration as Nigeria’s next president on May 29, president-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu made seven crucial commitments to Nigerians on Thursday.

The former governor of Lagos State reportedly received the national honorary title of Grand Commander of the Order of Federal Republic (GCFR) on Thursday in the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to news sources.

After thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for bestowing him with the honor, Tinubu said he understood what it meant and the challenge that lay ahead and vowed not to let down the President and Nigerians.

“I am a simple man who is the beneficiary of the support and goodwill of the people of Nigeria. The people have put their trust in us. You have done your part, Mr President,” Tinubu said.

When asked what he would do for Nigerians after taking office, Tinubu said he would “run the race well.” Tinubu promised to make progress in all areas of the nation’s life, including security, the economy, agriculture, jobs, education, health, and power.

The incoming president declared that the people deserve nothing less and that he would not let them down.

He once more praised Buhari for recognizing him and vice president-elect Kashim Shettima with national honors, including the Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON) title.

The President’s commitment to democratic and progressive good government, he continued, is unquestionable. Tinubu praised President Buhari for paying tribute to the late MKO Abiola, the victor of the June 12, 1993, presidential election that was later declared invalid.
