All unlawful mining operations have been outlawed in Enugu State by the government.

The prohibition was said in a statement issued on Thursday night by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government.

The government issued a warning against disobeying the order, threatening severe repercussions for any illicit miners currently operating in the state.
The government noted that maintaining equal rights to profits accruing from any state’s mineral resources and safeguarding the populace from hazards and pollution were also in the public’s best interests.
