There are signs that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will appoint Senator George Akume, a former governor of Benue State and recently-retired minister of special duties, to the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The move by President Tinubu is intended to placate the North Central region before the contest for the 10th National Assembly’s leadership.

The Western Post reports that Tinubu has chosen Senator Akume, a longtime buddy, for the top position.

According to information now available, the President is anticipated to formally announce Senator Akume’s appointment, along with those of other personal assistants, between Friday and Monday next week.

According to news sources, the North-central zone and members of the All Progressives Congress are dissatisfied over not being given consideration for the job of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Expectations for the appointment of the President’s personal assistants have been high among many political actors and Nigerians since his inauguration as the country’s 16th president on Monday, sparking numerous rumors on social and traditional media.

Yesterday, news reports said that President Tinubu has nominated Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the President’s Chief of Staff.
