Nigerian President Bola Tinubu nominated Adewale Bashir Adeniyi as interim Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday.
Adeniyi was named with new service heads, according to media reports.
Here are a few facts about the acting Comptroller General of Customs:
1. Adeniyi has been in the Nigeria Customs Service for almost 30 years.

2. In June 1987, he received a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, and in November 2013, he received a Master of Arts in Communication Science from the Universitaire Svizzera D’Italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland.
3. He was the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and the Gwagwalada Staff College in Abuja.
4. From June 2003 until May 2011, he was Customs’ longest-serving National Public Relations Officer.
5. In January 2020, he received the Comptroller-General of Customs Award for seizing $8,065,612 million in cash at Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
6. He is currently Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR) Governing Council.

7. In October 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari conferred on him the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
Adeniyi was a Deputy Comptroller General of Customs prior to his appointment as acting Comptroller.
