In the Ada-George neighborhood of Port Harcourt, a two-story hotel’s annex collapsed, leaving four injured people who are presently receiving medical attention in hospitals.
According to information obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the 1708 Hotel’s two-story building in Rumuoke by Okilton Junction, off Ada George, fell at around 6.15 am on Thursday.
The event took place while some neighborhood residents—mostly site workers—were preparing to go back to work for the day while others were still asleep.

While assessing the extent of the incident’s damage and its causes, Mr. Emeka Woke, the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, declared that the government will utilize every available tool to identify both the immediate and more remote reasons of the collapse.

“Early this morning, the governor, Siminialaye Fubara, was informed about this building collapse and he directed that I immediately visit the site on his behalf and assess the extent of damage and report back to him.
“Having seen the building, the first thing we did was carry out a personnel audit and from available records, no life was lost but we have been told that four persons sustained some injuries and taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Mr Isa Aghaebne, an engineer handling the integrity test on the collapsed building, said a structural integrity test will commence on Friday.
He, however, noted that the collapse might possibly be due to foundation failure or failure of the structure itself.
“We can’t ascertain now until we have concluded an integrity test which is expected to last for about two weeks,” he said.
NAN gathered that the collapsed building is part of expansion of an existing building.(NAN)
