Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, is a Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter who has stated that her life is a “testimony.”
Tems made the statements on July 2, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana, while delivering a prologue at the Essence Festival.
She was a vocalist who appeared to have been overcome by the affection from her fans and who reflected that she was from Lagos.
“My life is a witness, you know. I’m from Lagos, Nigeria, in case someone doesn’t know,” Tems stated.
The singer then gave a performance of “Essence,” the record-breaking song she and Wizkid wrote together and performed at the 29th Essence Festival.
Billboard’s Next Big Sound: Tems Emerges Number 1
The two enthralled the audience with an outstanding performance.
Tems hit limelight after stealing the show as a guest on Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ which arrived on his album ‘Made In Lagos’ in 2020.
The song peaked at number 9 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart after the release of a remix version with Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber in 2021.
Ever since, Tems has gone on to work with music stars such as Rihanna, Drake, Future and Beyoncé.
