According to the source, factions inside the party have been pushing for his resignation for the past two weeks, threatening to remove him at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting if he does not leave.
According to the source, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was among those who advised Adamu to quit because he had become a liability to the party.
He was compelled to resign as party chairman, however, after Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, threatened to remove him at the next NEC meeting if he did not resign.
Those demanding for Adamu’s resignation accused him of conspiring against the President during the party’s presidential primaries, openly favoring former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, neglecting to fully support Tinubu even after earning the party’s ticket, and mismanaging the party’s funds.
