The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and the Federal Government are scheduled to meet today (Tuesday) to discuss the continuing strike action and upcoming protest.
The outcome of the meeting will determine whether the protest would take place as scheduled, according to NARD President Emeka Orji in an interview with TheCable on Tuesday.
He said, “I cannot mention the federal government representatives we will be meeting with for now. But we will disclose our next move after the meeting maybe in the next four to five hours
Resident Doctors To Embark On Nationwide Mass Protest On Wednesday
Recall that on July 26, 2023, NARD began an indefinite strike in protest over the government’s refusal to comply with their requests.
The consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) and the one-for-one replacement circular, as well as an upward evaluation of the money for medical residency training in 2023, are some of the demands.
Others include making good on consequential adjustment arrears, as well as hazard and skipping allowance.
Following the Federal Government’s declaration that it will enforce a “no-pay, no-work” policy, its members vowed to start nonviolent nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday, August 9.
The Federal Ministry of Health, the office of the federation’s chief civil servant, and federal and state tertiary health institutes around the nation will all be picketed, according to the group.
