DSS Release Detained CBN Deputy Governor, Kingsley Obiora

Kingsley Obiora, the detained Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in responsibility of Economic Policy, has been freed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Obiora, who had been with the team of investigators since Wednesday, has reportedly been freed, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

According to information, Godwin Emefiele, the suspended chief bank governor, is the subject of allegations of financial mismanagement being investigated by the secret police.

According to a person with knowledge of the arrest, he was singled out as a key witness against his boss.

Abbas Masanawa, another top CBN officer, was recently detained while authorities investigated the depth of Emefiele’s suspected misconduct.

A CBN source claimed in an interview with Newsmen that the Special Investigations Panel, which President Bola Tinubu established to look into the tenure of Emefiele, may have had a role in the invitation as part of a scheme to get him to testify.

The special panel headed by Jim Obazee has been interrogating the CBN deputy governors and other top bank officials as part of an ongoing audit, it was further revealed.

The source said, “Let us be clear. No one is accusing Dr Obiora of fraud or theft. Dr Obiora, like other deputy governors, had been questioned severally by the panel before his detention.”
