The Obafemi Awolowo University administration in Ile-Ife has decreased the various fees that college students must pay.
This was stated by the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement released on Monday. He added that the decision was made after a meeting between the university’s administration and the Students Union leadership on Monday.

According to the statement, the meeting, which lasted for several hours, was organized by university administration in response to repeated student demands to have the original charges approved by the institution reduced.

It said the students’ leaders insisted on a 50 per cent reduction, but the university management made it clear that the new charges were the minimum the university requires to run efficiently.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Adebayo Bamire, later announced that the fees initially announced had been reduced.
