The Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Communities Forum has issued a call for the prompt inauguration of the newly constituted board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). This appeal comes with the aim of expediting the transformation and development of the Niger Delta region.
In a press statement signed by Chief Mulade Sheriff, Chairman of the forum from Delta State, and Honourable Goodness Gereghewei, Secretary of the forum from Bayelsa State, the group expressed its appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his electoral victory and his commendable move in nominating members to the NDDC Board in accordance with the NDDC Act of 2000.
The statement, which was shared with journalists in Warri, Delta State, emphasized the significance of this action in realigning the Commission’s trajectory to attract development to the Oil and Gas Producing Communities within the region.
The forum’s statement further appealed to President Tinubu to consider the constitution of the NDDC board as a matter of urgency and submit the list of nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation. The timely establishment of the board is seen as crucial for effective representation and delivery of development projects in the region.

While acknowledging the Senate’s recess period, the forum expressed concern about the potential delay in the screening and confirmation process. They stressed the importance of ensuring that the NDDC nominees are among the first to be considered by the Senate upon its return from recess.
The forum recalled past experiences with sole administrators and acting Managing Directors at the NDDC, which, they believe, hindered the region’s development and economic growth. Therefore, they urged President Tinubu to prevent a recurrence of such challenges by expediting the confirmation of the new NDDC board members.
In conclusion, the forum commended President Tinubu for nominating individuals of good reputation and integrity to serve on the new NDDC Board, expressing optimism that their collective efforts would contribute to the development and progress of the Niger Delta region.
