Nigerian Army Conducts Captain to Major Promotion Examination

The Nigerian Army is conducting the 2023 Captain to Major practical examination to assess the proficiency of 286 officers for higher responsibilities. The examination, held in Abeokuta, aims to evaluate the officers’ capabilities, particularly in the context of current security challenges, including terrorism and insurgency.

Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, emphasized that the examination would assess various aspects, including mental and physical fitness, communication, logical reasoning, map reading, and global challenges such as terrorism and insurgency. To be promoted from Captain to Major, officers must score a minimum of 50 percent in each subject and achieve an overall aggregate score of 60 percent.

Aligbe stressed the importance of the examination, particularly in the face of ongoing security challenges in the country. He urged the candidates to approach the examination with sincerity and emphasized that cheating and examination malpractices would not be tolerated.

The General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen Muhammed Usman, highlighted the significance of the examination in building the capacity of junior leadership to achieve national security objectives. He stated that the examination aimed to broaden candidates’ knowledge in various aspects of military operations, with a specific focus on Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operations.
