Starting on October 19, 2023, direct flights from Uganda to Nigeria will become a reality, as announced by the Uganda High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Nelson Ocheger. During his visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, Ambassador Ocheger extended an invitation to the minister to attend the inaugural flight to Nigeria.

Ambassador Ocheger also informed Minister Keyamo about a Business Forum scheduled for October 21, 2023. This forum will bring together business entrepreneurs from Uganda and their Nigerian counterparts to explore collaboration and business opportunities.

Minister Keyamo expressed his assurance that he would attend the inaugural flight from Uganda to Nigeria. He acknowledged the long history of brotherhood between Nigeria and Uganda and emphasized that the direct flight would mark the beginning of a partnership between the two countries. He also noted that free trade agreements between African nations are more accessible with the convenience of direct flights.

The demand for a direct flight to Abuja will be fulfilled, and meetings of aeronautical engineers from both countries, initially slated for December, will be brought forward tentatively to November 7 to expedite the BASA agreement review.
