The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria has produced former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele in the Federal Capital Territory High Court ahead of the hearing of his fundamental rights enforcement suit against the agency.

The EFCC’s attorney informed the court on Monday that the agency could not act on the November 2 order for his unconditional release because the former Central Bank chief’s counsel presented insufficient court paperwork pertaining to the said decision.

The order was issued by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi in response to an Ex-Parte motion filed by the former CBN bank Chief, who was detained by the EFCC shortly after being freed from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in late October.

Emefiele’s counsel, Matthew Burkaa, informed the Court that his client had been in detention for 149 days as of Monday, and that it is now looking likely that he will be released on the 151st day, which is this Wednesday.
