The Edo State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of the husband of Mrs. Toluige Olokoobi, the mother of the famous “mummy calm down” boy. This heartbreaking development comes just days after news broke that she had taken her own life.

The tragic incident was first reported by an X user, who tweeted about Olokoobi’s suicide on Monday. According to eyewitnesses, the deceased committed suicide in front of her one-year-old son. Olokoobi worked as a medicine distributor, while her husband was employed as a taxi driver and car dealer.

The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, revealed to BBC Pidgin on Thursday that the deceased’s husband was arrested and is currently in police custody for questioning. Nwabuzor explained that the husband discovered his wife hanging with a rope around her neck upon returning home from the market. He immediately alerted neighbors, who accompanied him to the hospital where the death was confirmed.

The police spokesperson further mentioned that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the mortuary, and the husband will be transferred to the State CID for further investigation.

Toluige Olokoobi and her son gained widespread attention, particularly from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, after a video of her son pleading with her, saying “mummy be calming down,” went viral in 2020. The governor later met with the boy and his family, commending his courage and composure. The circumstances surrounding Toluige Olokoobi’s suicide remain a tragedy that has left many in shock and sorrow.
