Chidi Odinkalu, a human rights advocate and attorney, has responded to the controversy surrounding the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Court of Appeal ruling regarding the Kano State gubernatorial election.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, the appellate court dismissed Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State and NNPP candidate, in a ruling that was handed down on Friday.
Nonetheless, a few of the court’s assertions in the CTC of the ruling that was made public on Tuesday seemed to contradict one another.
Nigeria’s Judiciary No Longer Hope Of Common Man – Chidi Odinkalu
The majority of the CTC’s decisions favoured Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the appellant in the case. The All Progressives Congress (APC) was the first respondent, followed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Democratic Party (NDPP) as the second and third respondents.
Odinkalu responded in an X post on Tuesday, claiming that the Nigerian judiciary is corrupt and has proven that it is unredeemable.
He said that after their deliberations were over, the Court of Appeal would need to alter the ruling in order to make sense of or provide an explanation for the inconsistency.
He wrote: “When we say the judiciary in #Nigeria is crooked, ppl wonder how so. Look: the Court of Appeal in Kano governorship case resolved all the issues “in favour of the appellant & against the 1st Respondent.” Yet it found the appeal lacking in merit & liable to be dismissed. Explain!.
Unbelievable: Contradictory Rulings In CTC Of Judgment Sacking Kano Governor Emerge
“The only way to understand or explain this is that the Court of Appeal changed the judgment after they had concluded deliberations. If this does not persuade people as to how bad things are, I don’t know what will.
“I am hearing this evening that the court has bn asking the lawyers to return the judgment for “correction”. But this does not fall within the ambit of the #SlipRule. This is #JudicialCorruption on the face of the record.”
