On Saturday, the 9th Mile 24/7 Water Scheme, which has a daily production capacity of 70,000 cubic metres, was put into service by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
During his campaign for governor, the governor promised the people that within 180 days of taking office, every household in the state would have access to water. On Saturday, this milestone was reached.
Declaring the day as “Enugu Water Day,” Mbah announced that plans were in motion to commission new pumps in the Oji Water Scheme in order to increase daily water output by 50,000 cubic metres, for a total daily supply of 120,000 cubic metres.
Water Bill For The Country’s Benefit
According to reports, the 9th Mile plant was established 41 years ago and ceased operations 20 years ago. The facility’s renovation and revitalization, it is widely believed, would go a long way in tackling the bedevilling water-related issues in the state.
Mbah said that plans for the 50,000 cubic metre per day Oji Water Scheme have been established by his government.
The state government provided a water gallery to make sure the taps were running, but the governor was also at certain residential and commercial areas that were not easily piped. He assured them that in the upcoming days, these and other conquered regions will be piped.
