Tinubu Holds Climate Talks with King Charles III on COP28 Sidelines in Dubai

Ahead of the COP28 climate conference, President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III of the United Kingdom (UK) in Dubai.

Sharing his thoughts on the meeting on his official X Twitter, Tinubu hailed it as a success, highlighting their shared commitment to climate awareness and their improved Nigeria-UK ties.

At the upcoming COP28, President Tinubu voiced optimism in establishing a fair global standard for environmental stewardship.

“I had a productive meeting with His Majesty, King Charles III of England who is also the Head of the Commonwealth, and a passionate climate advocate.

“The meeting was a significant step in strengthening the partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, and I am optimistic about the positive impact our joint efforts will have on our planet’s future as we look forward to setting an equitable global standard for environmental stewardship at #COP28 COP28.”

This is the first time the two leaders have met since Tinubu was elected president and the King was crowned.

With a request to expedite global climate action, the COP28 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change convened in Dubai on Thursday.

The meeting is being held in the warmest year in human history, according to climate scientists.

Additionally, experts claim that the global climate catastrophe has had an unprecedented negative influence on people’s life and means of subsistence.

“We are living through climate collapse in real time,” António Guterres said, imploring world leaders to act.

The climate summit is being attended by over 160 world leaders.
