In response to the nation’s worsening economic crisis, Rev. Joseph Akinfenwa, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ibadan, Oyo State, has urged the Federal Government to proclaim a three-day national season of prayer and fasting.

The plea was made by the bishop, who voiced concern over the escalating costs of food, transportation, and lodging during the Advent Carol of Nine Lessons and Songs held in Ibadan.

He made it clear that immediate divine intervention was necessary.

Bishop Akinfenwa emphasised that Nigeria’s position is especially concerning even though he acknowledged that the economic crisis is a worldwide one.

“We are blessed with enough natural resources and therefore shouldn’t suffer as such,” he said, urging not only the government but all citizens to join hands in tackling the crisis.

The bishop said that in order to help the impoverished, government employees should set an example by reducing their pay and benefits.

Bishop Akinfenwa advised Christians to maintain their attention on Christ’s second coming in addition to his economic worries.

He exhorted the faithful to reject the love of money, pursue a closer connection with God, and apply God’s message.
