Governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, has convened an urgent meeting of the state executive council in reaction to the unanticipated political unrest.
The important meeting is reportedly taking place right now at the state capital of Port Harcourt’s Government House.

The conference is urgent because 27 of the 32 members of the House of Assembly, who were previously members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The political rift between Governor Fubara and his political mentor, former governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is made more complicated by the mass defection.
