A resolution urging Governor Siminialaye Fubara to submit the state’s 2024 budget and the medium-term expenditure plan for review was approved by the Rivers House of Assembly on Tuesday.
This decision was taken after a resolution presented by Speaker Mr. Martin Amaewhu of the House was approved at its 90th plenary session, which was held in the parliamentarians’ quarters in Port Harcourt.
Amaewhu expressed his worries in his motion over the House’s lack of access to the executive branch’s budget and spending plan. He underlined that, in accordance with the 1999 Constitution’s requirements, the governor must present these documents for approval.
Rivers Crisis: Eze Salutes Fubara For Aligning With Amaechi As Fight With Wike Thickens
Governor Fubara had earlier on December 13 presented a N800 billion budget for 2024 to the four-member House of Assembly for approval, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Within twenty-four hours of the budget being submitted to the lawmakers on December 14, the governor swiftly signed it into law.
However, it is expected that Governor Fubara will resubmit the budget in accordance with a peace agreement mediated by Bola Tinubu, as a necessary step towards resolving the political crisis in the state. (NAN)
