Northern Elders have sent Bola Tinubu a strong warning, stating that if he moves certain important national institutions from Abuja to Lagos or any other location in the South, they will not support him in the general elections of 2027.

By relocating some Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) departments to Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub, Tinubu is allegedly attempting to undermine the growth and stability of the North, according to the Katsina Elders’ Forum, a group of powerful leaders in the home state of former President Buhari.

Following a meeting behind closed doors, the forum’s secretary, Aliyu Mohammed, informed reporters on Wednesday night that the group had unanimously decided to oppose Tinubu’s relocation plan, which he described as “unconstitutional” and “anti-North”.

Mohammed said, “Therefore, we are warning Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as long as he is interested in coming back in 2027, as long as he is interested in the votes of the Northerners, to reverse these unconstitutional decisions. Whoever is advising him to take such decisions is an enemy of the country.

“Such a person is not interested in the Nigerian project. And the North is not afraid of telling Tinubu to his face that we are not ready to re-elect him in 2027 once he starts moving all these critical departments to Lagos.”

The declaration from the conference coincides with escalating hostilities between the North and the South regarding the allocation of authority and wealth inside the nation.
