Following a revelation by Saharareporters regarding possible coup plotting in Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “FAKE NEWS.”

“EXCLUSIVE: Presidential Guards Brigade Placed On High Alert Over Suspicions Of Coup Plot In Nigeria; Key Brigades Under Watch As Commander Holds Emergency Meetings With Tinubu, Gbajabiamila,” a report dated February 25, 2024, provided exclusive details about the Presidential Guards Brigade’s increased alertness and the emergency meetings that included Col. Adebisi Onasanya, the Brigade’s commander, Chief Bola Tinubu, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

A image of the report with the obvious label “FAKE NEWS” was included in the official statement from the Nigerian Army, which was tweeted via its official X handle.

This prompt rejection comes after Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa warned last week against demands for a coup in light of Nigeria’s current economic difficulties.

General Musa underlined the Armed Forces’ dedication to defending the country’s democracy and warned coup d’état supporters that they would face legal repercussions.

The divergent accounts presented in the study and the military’s denial have drawn more attention from the public and prompted doubts about the veracity of the initial assertions.
