The governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has pleaded with Bola Tinubu to restore Nigeria’s land borders in order to lessen the widespread food insecurity that is wreaking havoc on the country.

In a meeting with Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Governor Yusuf emphasised the urgent necessity of reopening the borders in order to stop inflation and lower the rising costs of basic food products.

Election: FG Orders The Closing Of National Borders

In order to discourage smuggling and encourage domestic consumption, the administration of the most recent president, Muhammadu Buhari, closed land borders. Governor Yusuf, however, underlined the detrimental effects of that border blockade on Nigerians more than two years later. The nation’s food shortages and economic problems have been made worse by just one act.

Governor Yusuf bemoaned the severe situation of poverty and hunger in the nation in a message posted on his Twitter account, blaming it on the surging costs of commodities.

As a result, he begged Bola Tinubu to give the reopening of borders for food importation first priority in order to immediately lessen the suffering of Nigerians.
