Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new benchmark in the Saudi Pro League by scoring his 34th and 35th goals of the season during Al Nassr’s final match. The 39-year-old Portuguese forward celebrated this achievement with a tweet saying, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me.”
Ronaldo, formerly of Real Madrid and Manchester United, scored in first-half stoppage time and again with a header in the 69th minute, helping Al Nassr secure a 4-2 victory over Al Ittihad on Monday. This feat surpasses the previous record of 34 goals set by Moroccan player Abderrazak Hamdallah in the 2018-19 season.
Despite this personal triumph, Al Nassr finished the season in second place, 14 points behind champions Al Hilal. Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022, marking the beginning of a wave of international players signing lucrative contracts with Saudi league teams.
Additionally, Ronaldo, who captained Portugal to victory at the 2016 Euros, has been selected for the squad for this year’s tournament in Germany, marking his 11th international competition. With 206 appearances, he holds the record for the most caps in men’s international football and has scored 128 goals, also a record.
