The military will retaliate, the Defence Headquarters has pledged, following the Thursday death of five soldiers in Abia State.
The troops’ deaths were attributed to IPOB and its militant affiliate, Eastern Security Network, by the defence headquarters on Friday.
Remember that May 30 is designated as Biafra Heroes Day by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Armed terrorists carrying out a sit-at-home directive issued by the IPOB in remembrance of the Igbo people who lost their lives in the 1967–1970 Nigerian Civil War massacred the troops.
According to reports, the troops were slain on Thursday near Obikabia Junction in that state’s Obingwa Local Government Area.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, responded to the soldiers’ deaths on Friday with an official statement in which he declared that the military would take revenge for their deaths and would respond with great vigour.
In his words, “Accordingly, it is absolutely imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against troops. The military would be fierce in its response. We would bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat,” he vowed.
“The armed forces mourn the death of these troops as each and every soldier lost in battle is a terrible loss”.
