Oseni Rufai, a well-known broadcast journalist, has expressed serious concerns about Nigeria’s recent economic crisis and the country’s gullible populace.
Using his X handle, Rufai emphasised the glaring reversal of post-military successes, especially since the year 2000, and attributed the country’s problems to general chaos and a lack of advancement.
Rufai stressed that Nigeria’s economic problems put the country, which was formerly thought of as Africa’s brightest star, in danger of turning into a mere paperweight on the international scene.
He bemoaned the nation’s plunge into utter chaos, citing a slew of disappointments that have impeded progress and advancement.
In the last eight years, all the gains made during the postmilitary era, which came to an end in 1999, have been undone, according to Rufai.
“Nigeria’s growth is heavily truncated. Today, we wallow in abject disorder. In all, Africa’s star Nigeria is fast becoming paperweight.”
Drawing attention to societal attitudes, Rufai expressed dismay at the level of gullibility among Nigerians, citing a metaphor to illustrate his point.
“The gullibility of some Nigerians has made it easy for this economic slide. Nigerians are so gullible that if you place a guillotine on their neck, they will call it dinner napkin,” he said.
