Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the apex Igbo sociocultural body, has called the Thursday death of five soldiers in Aba, Abia State, “despicable.”

Recall that the soldiers were shot and killed at a military checkpoint in Aba by unidentified assailants who were allegedly carrying out the sit-at-home directive on May 30.

People all throughout the nation have continued to denounce the tragedy.

Such activities are barbaric and foreign to Igbo traditions and cultures, according to a statement released to journalists on Friday by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide.

Okwu stated that human life was sacred to the Ndigbo people and that it was heartless for anyone to spill blood while also honouring the memory of the dead warriors.

According to the Youth President, “what happened in Aba on Thursday similar incidents in the past are pointers to the fact that infiltrators have taken over the Biafra struggle.

“We heartily commiserate with the Nigerian Army for this painful loss; we also grieve with the families of the soldiers who died in active service of our country. May their souls rest in peace.

“However, we have to use this opportunity to dissociate Ndigbo from this madness. No sane Igbo man will come out and kill people with such impunity. The perpetrators are the same people who have been hiding under Biafra agitation to cause mayhem in Igbo land.

“The truth is that they are not the real Biafra agitators; these are criminal elements.

“Their motive is clear- they want Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to remain perpetually in detention so they could fester in their trade, under the guise of Biafra agitation.”

He pleaded on the security services to find the offenders and bring the full force of the law down on them.

In the meantime, Okwu reiterated his request to the Federal Government to settle the IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s issue diplomatically.

He claimed that Kanu’s release will open the door to distinguishing between those who are sincerely campaigning for his freedom and those who are criminal elements hiding behind demands to commit crimes.
