Donald Trump, the former US president, has expressed displeasure over his conviction on all 34 counts in his historic criminal trial in New York that involved falsifying business documents.

Trump criticised Judge Merchan, who oversaw the case, and labelled the ruling a “disgrace.”

The ruling represents the first time a sitting or past US president has been found guilty of a felony. Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11 and may receive a prison sentence, although legal experts believe a fine is more likely.

In a six-week period, the court heard testimony from 22 witnesses, including Stormy Daniels, whose purported sexual encounter with Trump was at the core of this legal dispute.

Analysts claim that Donald Trump’s criminal conviction offers an amazing array of firsts in history.

Not only is he the first sitting or former US president to be convicted of a crime, but he is also the first presumed major-party nominee to be found guilty of a felony.

It’s not too early to think about the political ramifications, even as Trump prepares to file an appeal in the hush-money case and awaits a sentencing on July 11 that could theoretically involve jail time and a sizable fine.
